The 92nd Street Y's Afterschool Program offers over 15 community service programs for middle and high school kids. Hi Art!
These wonderful classes alternate between an exploration of painting, sculpture, and installations at museums and galleries around town, and then "playing" with those same concepts in a spacious studio setting. Classes are small, consisting of nine to 13 kids and their parents or caregivers. Each Hi Art! semester focuses on one contemporary musical masterpiece and the music is integrated into the art, with a little dance and improvisation incorporated as a means of digesting the lesson with gusto.

These residents are provided a variety of programs including job training, computer training, nutrition workshops, gym instruction and a women's issues group. Recreational activities such as Bingo, monthly birthday celebrations and day trips are offered to residents. A visiting nurse provides health services bi-weekly.

Part of the Children's Aid Society, the Rhinelander Center offers numerous early childhood, nursery school, and afterschool programs. Lessons in the Visual & Performing Arts (Ballet, chorus, Violin, Keyboard, Guitar, and Voice), Computers, Arts & Crafts, and more are on offer. There's a free Saturday program for deaf and hard of hearing children. Summer programs include a mini-camp for 3-5 year olds and a Country Day Camp for 6-11 year olds.
Riverdale YM-YWHA
Two afterschool programs, for kids ages four to 12 years old, offer a range of activities, including science, cooking, magic, pottery, art, dance, creating a newspaper, chess, and girl scouting. Locations are PS 24 and the Y's own KidsSpace. Call for information about transportation from local schools and homes, to and from the afterschool program.

West 59th Street Rec Center
The West 59th Street Rec Center offers a variety of activities, courses, and programs for kids and adults. Facilities include an indoos pool, gymnasium and fitness room. Afterschool programs in basketball, cheerleading, swimming, and lifeguard training are all on offer. The Center also features an indoor rock wall maintained by the City Climbers Club who offer lessons in the sport.
West Side YMCA
The West Side Y is the largest of the 19 branches in Greater New York, and has extensive facilities, including two pools, a basketball/volleyball gym, a boxing/martial arts gym and other facilities for adults. This branch offers wonderful writing programs for kids and teens, in addition to the usual classes and programs.
Wet Paint! Art Studio
