92nd Street Y Afterschool Programs
The 92nd Street Y's Afterschool Program offers over 15 community service programs for middle and high school kids. Students can mentor younger children, help homeless New Yorkers affected by AIDS/HIV, cook for and feed the hungry, and lead other kids in sports or art activities. Many activities are open to all participants, while some, including tutoring and visits with senior citizens, are intended for high school students.
ARTKids

Hi Art!
These wonderful classes alternate between an exploration of painting, sculpture, and installations at museums and galleries around town, and then "playing" with those same concepts in a spacious studio setting. Classes are small, consisting of nine to 13 kids and their parents or caregivers. Each Hi Art! semester focuses on one contemporary musical masterpiece and the music is integrated into the art, with a little dance and improvisation incorporated as a means of digesting the lesson with gusto.

Part of the Children's Aid Society, the Rhinelander Center offers numerous early childhood, nursery school, and afterschool programs. Lessons in the Visual & Performing Arts (Ballet, chorus, Violin, Keyboard, Guitar, and Voice), Computers, Arts & Crafts, and more are on offer. There's a free Saturday program for deaf and hard of hearing children. Summer programs include a mini-camp for 3-5 year olds and a Country Day Camp for 6-11 year olds.
The Edgies (Educational Alliance)
This community center on the Lower East Side provides a variety of programs for children, teens, adults, seniors, and families. The Alliance is most well-known for its Arts School, which holds a plethora of classes for adults and children, in addition to family workshops.
The Painted Pot
The Painted Pot offers a number of activities for both children and adults. Choose from Afterschool Mud Workshops, Paint a Pot, Pottery Wheel, Handbuilding and Sculpture, Beading, or Mosaics classes. There's even a Create and Wine class for adults one evening a week.
Wet Paint! Art Studio
